first appearance of the Qur'an in English. On January 27, 1977 The
Times of London reported: 'Despite the regrets of the scholarly and
bibliographic world, the Evelyn Library, one of Britain's most historically
important private collections, is to be broken up. It is a collection
over fifty years of one of the first great book collectors, an intelligent
and significant historical figure in his own right'. This is the John
Evelyn copy.
