View of Lahore.

Parker, Neville Anbrey (1808 - 1853).

Watercolour on paper. Inscribed in ink bottom right and in pencil on verso Lahore. 210 x 360mm. (8.5 x 14ins). Circa 1846.

Lahore was taken by the British at the end of the First Sikh War, on 20 February 1846 and the Treaty of Lahore was signed on 11 March, formally concluding it. From the peaceful nature of the scene, it is reasonable to conclude that this watercolour was drawn after the end of hostilities. There are some Alkali Sikhs in the foreground.

Provenance Eyre & Greig Ltd, Parker family up to 1988. Pre-Mutiny watercolours of Lahore are rare.
